Cambridge University Research Project
Ms Gabriel and a group of Y12 students have been involved in a research project with Cambridge University.
The research study is exploring how black histories are taught as part of the UK history curriculum. The aim is to gain an understanding of how a broad spectrum of people including pupils, teachers, historians experience and learn about British black people as part of UK history education.
Students had the opportunity to visit the Cambridge Centre for African Studies and were involved in an interactive workshop learning about different Black British historical figures. They have been involved in various sessions, interviews and focus groups which resulted in the students preparing and delivering a History lesson to a Y9 class which the students thoroughly enjoyed. The lesson was well planned, interactive and informative and the Y9 class definitely learnt about a range of historical figures they didn’t previously know about. The Y12 students were a real credit to the academy and they could very well be our teachers & historians of the future, watch this space!
