  • Rights Respecting School

    Since 1992, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child have been enforced by law in the UK. As a result, all institutions must show they are applying the principles of the Convention. At Alec Reed Academy the rights of children are central to everything we do, be it from providing a safe environment, to teaching pupils about healthy living.

    One of the articles of the convention states that it is a right of a child to learn what their rights are. To help us achieve this the Academy has been recognised as “A Rights Respecting School”, which is issued directly by UNICEF. This means our students are taught about their rights and have an opportunity to raise issues if they feel the Academy is not applying the articles correctly.
