Students at the Alec Reed Academy are assigned to a House, which they remain in throughout their time at the Academy. The House system is designed to encourage competition, teamwork, Academy spirit, and mentorship. Throughout the year, there are a number of House competitions; these can be charitable, sporting, community spirited, and subject based. We have a point system where students earn points for their house through achievements, good behaviour, and winning events. There are three coveted House cups: the overall winners, community spirit, and the Sports cup that the students compete to win throughout the year.
Every House has student leaders who are appointed to represent the opinions and voice of their peers. The student leadership team meets weekly and helps organise events and gauge student opinions. Student leadership at the Academy is essential for fostering personal growth, responsibility, and active participation in the school community. It provides students with opportunities to develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. Through leadership roles, students gain confidence, learn to advocate for themselves and others, and contribute to creating a positive school environment.
